This course includes two assignments and one short final exam which can all be done from home online.

This course will cover the basics in what to do in an emergency to help an animal in need of first aid.

This Pet First Aid course can either be done online or posted out to you. The perk of the online version is that you can start straight away. Once payment has been recieved, we will email you your work and all you have to do is complete the tasks set online and email the work back to us.

With the postal option, you would get all the course work sent to you, plus paper for writing on, a pen and a pre-paid envelope to return your coursework.

There is no time limit to complete this course, though it is advised that you spend a minimum of 30 hours on it so you have a better chance of learning the content. You can complete the course in the minimum if you wish or take a number of months, learning at a pace to suit you. The steadier the pace, you more you will enjoy the course.

This course is for Adults aged 18 and over and is suitable for pet owners and those who work with animals that wish to add this certificate to their C.V.

Both key stages 1 and 2 are covered in the basic course. It is hoped the children will learn the following:

Key stage 1  Citizenship (Animals and us)

(1) We all have basic needs.

(2) How we look after animals.

Key stage 1    Personal, Social and health education

(2e) To realise that people and other living things have needs, and they have responsibilities to meet them.

(3c) How some diseases can be controlled.

Key stage 1  Science

(2b) Humans and animals need food and water to stay alive.

(2e) How to treat animals with care and sensitivity.

(2f) Humans and animals produce offspring and these grow into adults.

Key stage 1 Design Technology

(1a) Generate ideas by drawing on their own and other peoples experiences. (For the craft session involving ‘environmental enrichment’ where the child will be asked to design either a toy or activity for a pet of their choice in order for it to be environmentally enriched).

(1d) Plan by suggesting what to do next as their ideas develop (as mentioned above for the craft session).

Key stage 1 Art and Design

(5b) Working on their own or with others on projects in 2d or 3d and on different scales (craft session).

Key stage 1 English

(2a) Sustain concentration (the children will be given a story to listen to, demonstrating responsible and irresponsible pet ownership. They will then have to discuss these points as a group with the responsipet team member).

(2b) Remember specific points that interest them (as in the story above).

(2c) Ask questions to clarify their understanding.

(3d) Extend their ideas in light of discussion.

(3e) Give reasons for their opinions and actions.

(8c) Describing events and experiences.

Key stage 2   Science

(1c) To make links between life processes in familiar animals and the environment they are found.

(2b) About the need for food for activity and growth, and the importance of an adequate and varied diet for health.

(2h) Importance if exercise for good health.

(4b) How locally ocurring animals can be identified and assigned to groups.

Key stage 2   English

(2a) Identify the gist of an account or key points in a discussion and evaluate what they hear.

(2b) Ask relevant questions to clarify, extend and follow up ideas (throughout the session the children will be asked questions to help with their understanding).

(3a) Make contributions relevant to the topic and take turns in discussion.
